David & Lindsey's Surprise Proposal in Ninety Six, SC | South Carolina Proposal Photographer
Some stories come full circle in the sweetest way, and David and Lindsey's surprise proposal was exactly that. Earlier this year, I had the honor of photographing Lindsey's college graduation session. From the moment we met, I knew she was someone special. We spent the evening laughing, creating beautiful images, and simply enjoying the experience together. Little did I know that session would lead to one of the most meaningful moments I've had the privilege of documenting. Not long after Lindsey's graduation session, I received a call from David. He told me how much Lindsey had shared about her experience and that they had been talking about booking a couples session. But there was one detail Lindsey didn't know David planned to propose. As a South Carolina proposal photographer, being trusted with moments like these is something I never take lightly.
Planning the Perfect Surprise Proposal
David and I spent weeks planning every detail of the proposal. We discussed his vision, possible locations, and how we could make the moment feel natural while still preserving the surprise. The couple dreamed of a rustic setting with a dirt road, open fields, golden light, and David's truck incorporated into their photos. Immediately, I knew the perfect spot in Ninety Six, South Carolina. Over the following weeks, David encountered a few hurdles while trying to pull everything together. Through lunch break phone calls and quick conversations, we stayed in touch and adjusted plans as needed. Through it all, David never lost sight of what mattered most: creating a moment Lindsey would never forget. And let me tell you, he pulled it off flawlessly.
Golden Hour in Ninety Six, SC
When the day finally arrived, I was nervous. Photographers feel the weight of these moments too. I wanted every transition to happen seamlessly and for everything to unfold exactly as David had envisioned. We began our session along a quiet dirt road with David's truck parked beneath the soft evening light. As soon as we started shooting, my nerves settled. I was doing what I love most capturing genuine moments and telling stories through photographs. As golden hour approached, we made our way to a nearby field and pond where the proposal would take place. Then something unexpected happened. As we walked up, a kind stranger yelled, "CONGRATULATIONS!" Internally, I was panicking. How did they know?! Externally, I smiled, kept moving, and hoped Lindsey hadn't caught on. Thankfully, she remained blissfully unaware.
The Proposal
We started with a few poses to calm both my nerves and David's. Then came the moment we'd been planning for weeks. I told Lindsey I wanted to try an "artsy" pose I'd seen before and positioned her facing away from David. As she looked out over the field, I subtly motioned for David. He dropped to one knee. I clicked my camera a few times before encouraging Lindsey to turn around. And there it was. The moment she'd dreamed about since meeting David. Tears rolled down her cheeks. The gasps were gasping. And standing behind my camera, I felt incredibly grateful to witness it all.
Moments like these are why I do what I do.
Because photography isn't just about beautiful images it's about preserving the moments that become part of a family's story for generations.
David and Lindsey, thank you for trusting me with one of the biggest days of your lives. It was an honor to celebrate alongside you, and I cannot wait to see where this next chapter takes you.
